The Magic of Magnesium

Do you have trouble sleeping, frequent headaches, depression, anxiety or muscle pain?

What about poor digestion, high blood pressure, hormone imbalances or low energy?

Or PMS symptoms, inflammation, blood sugar issues or chocolate cravings?

If yes, then you are most likely deficient in magnesium. Based on the current data 75-80% of our population is - yikes!

Magnesium is a powerhouse essential mineral responsible for over 300 important reactions in the body, such as: converting food to energy, muscle contraction and repair, repairing DNA, regulation of the nervous system, hormone and neurotransmitter balances.

Our body's magnesium levels are depleted by stress, sleep deprivation, exercise and medications. Then when we are deficient we don't sleep well and get stressed easily. Which means we deplete our stores even more! A vicious cycle.

We can’t build up and store a lot of magnesium in the body, so it’s crucial that we replenish what our body uses on a daily basis.

If you experience any of the signs of magnesium deficiency listed above, consider adding or upping the following foods to your diet to replenish your magnesium levels:

  • Pumpkin seeds - 1/4 cup = 37% RDI

  • Spinach boiled - 1 cup = 38% RDI

  • Chia seeds - 2 tblspns  = 26% RDI

  • Almonds - 1/4 cup = 22% RDI

  • Quinoa (cooked) - 1 cup = 28% RDI

Should you supplement? Probably. I will always suggest eating real whole foods first before supplementation, but unfortunately the mineral content of our soils (and therefore our foods) is becoming more and more depleted as well.

During a Kinesiology session we can test if your magnesium levels are sufficient. If not, I have a high concentration transdermal Magnesium Oil spray available for purchase at the clinic.
